The true story of Thanksgiving


In 1637, 700 people were killed from the Pequot, the North American people. But the question is why did the massacre happen? According to some historical accounts, months before the dreadful event, a privateer was found dead in his boat, and the colonists accused the Pequot of the death. 

In retaliation, on May 26, and while the Pequot people were asleep in their village,  the settlers raided them and burned everything to the ground. After that, John Winthrop, governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, proclaimed a day of thanksgiving for the end of the fighting and the safe return of the soldier
